Hosted by LuAnn Raadt

Tinctures, oils, and salves... oh my! Herbalism may appear daunting, but it doesn't have to be. Anyone interested in creating their own herbal remedies can easily do so. After learning how to recognize the healing plants growing all around us, you'll find out how to make a tincture, an herb-infused oil, and a salve.

Take away: 4 oz jar of tincture made of aerial parts of a plant that looks good at that time, perhaps plantain.

Also a 1 oz tin of herbal salve, likely plantain or yarrow as both are so useful.

*Offered Sunday Only, 10:45AM

I Really Dig Root Medicine

Hosted by LuAnn Raadt

In autumn, as days shorten and temperatures drop, plants shift their energy and resources from their above-ground growth to their roots. This is a survival strategy to prepare for winter dormancy and ensure the plant's ability to regrow in the spring. This is the prime time for harvesting roots, when their medicinal qualities are most potent. In this outdoor exploration class, you will discover how to find and gather medicinal roots, and make your own dandelion root tincture.

Take away: 4 oz jar of dandelion root tincture

Your 2025 Instructors

LuAnn Headshot

LuAnn Raadt is an experienced gardener, herbalist, and educator. Growing up on a farm in southern Minnesota, she developed a love for plants and their cultivation. Interestingly, she now embraces many of the “weeds” her family once sought to remove, using them in remedies for common health issues. Trained under professional herbalists, she delights in identifying plants, learning their botanical characteristics, and cultivating a diverse range of medicinal herbs that are not readily available commercially or are considered at-risk in the wild. LuAnn also enjoys crafting herbal remedies, teas, and other beverages, and is enthusiastic about introducing others to the fascinating world of folk herbalism and teaching them how to create and use herbal products themselves.

Elsa Litecky is an ex-field biologist turned outdoor educator, and founder of EcoElsa. The project began as a blog and Youtube channel in 2018 to share topics and skills with people to help make the outdoors more accessible to more people, especially parents and teachers. While blogs and videos are still produced, they've since broadened their scope to include curriculums and teaching resources, as well as offering outdoor programs, presentations, and workshops. Elsa enjoys teaching the next generation all about the wilderness and how we can interact with it.
